History of the Sport
As with many new trends, Nordic Walking actually has a long history.
Nordic Walking was invented by cross-country skiers who
wanted to stay in shape for their winter sport during the warmer months.
Researchers in sports medicine and other fitness professionals
recognized that the health benefits could be applied to all fitness walkers.
Equipment manufacturers then designed poles especially for this use.
In just a few years, the sport of Nordic Walking has grown
tremendously in Scandinavian countries and in Central Europe.
In 2001, half a million Finns walked regularly with
Nordic Walking poles – 10% of the population!
In Germany, the purchase of Nordic Walking poles is now covered
as a health care expense.
Here in the United States, Nordic Walking is slowly gaining momentum.
Kenco is a pioneer in promoting and educating people in the sport.
You’ll see us out and about – smiling people walking with poles.
Why not try it for yourself?
